Fleas/ticks and my cats?

So last night i was at my friends house and she has 2 cats and they have either fleas or ticks. I have 2 cats of my own at my house and I wanted to know if the fleas/ticks could have got in my stuff ir something. My friend said that the fleas/ticks only bite her so I shouldn't worry about it but i don't know if that's true. So is there any way I could have brought the fleas/ticks home to my cats?
