Car alarm goes off with hard key but now remote key?

What are the possible issues that would cause the alarm to go off when I use the hard key to unlock my truck even though the electronic key disarms the alarm just fine. It is a 2003 Ford Ranger and I tried the passenger side door and the alarm still went off.
